Judge scoffs at case delays

A FRASER Coast man has had his day in court delayed again.

Zane Rene Cook was charged with property offences after allegedly attempting to sell a stolen boat on eBay for $27,000 in 2010.

In June, Cook retracted his earlier guilty pleas to the charges and told the presiding judge in the Hervey Bay District Court he intended to sack his legal team.

The matter was listed for mention in the Brisbane District Court on Thursday but the case hit another hurdle.

Defence lawyer Rosemary Gilbert said her client had been taken from the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre to Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where his case was scheduled to be mentioned.

It was during mid-transport authorities noted Cook was required to appear in Brisbane court on Thursday but by then there was not enough time to bring the 34-year-old back.

"...(as a result) a conference I had scheduled with him could not take place," Ms Gilbert said.

Judge Leanne Clare adjourned the case to August 20 before scoffing at the constant delays.

"It's got a life of its own," she said.

In Hervey Bay, Cook's previous solicitor, Trinity McGarvie, formally withdrew from the case, stating there was now an "ethical conflict" keeping her from representing Cook any further.
