SHARP turns, speed, agility... that's the life for Jess Fox.
But the 19-year-old feels more at home on the water than on the road.
The Olympic slalom canoe silver medallist hasn't been driving for long, but believes she has already found the perfect fit for her sporting lifestyle.
What was your first car?
Well, my first car, and only car I've ever had, is a Kia Sportage.
Before that I was stealing mum's car when I could - she drives a little Hyundai Getz so the Sportage was a luxurious upgrade. I consider myself such a lucky teenager to be associated with Kia.
What are you driving now?
The Kia Sportage. I love that it complements my lifestyle. I'm a sporty girl, it is the perfect size to fit all my training gear, my paddles and kayak on the roof.
It's great for road trips and so spacious and comfy, not to mention quite flashy because it's orange. One advantage of that is that I can always find it in the car park. I also love the sunroof for those lovely summer days, and the seat warmers for those cold winter mornings when I head to training.
What cars did your family have while you were growing up?
We had a few Holden station wagons, the first one was red and I was really young, so all I remember about that one was that the number plate spelt TOE and that we got rid of it when the paint started peeling.
We also had a silver one and now Dad has had a Holden Captiva for the past couple of years. Mum is definitely due for an upgrade from her Getz, and I think the new Rio would be perfect for her.
What is your greatest frustration on the road?
Trucks. They often drive really fast and they scare me, especially when I'm wedged between two of them on Parramatta Rd. I'd say I'm a very calm person on the roads. I tend to shrug off road rage but what does annoy me is people criss-crossing and overtaking in every lane and cutting people off on the motorway.
Do you have any preferred driving music?
It depends what mood I'm in. Either some upbeat pop/rock or anything on Triple J. I love that the Sportage has Bluetooth connectivity and amazing sound so I can connect playlists on my phone or iPod. There's nothing like cranking up a good pump up playlist on the way to a race.
If you were to pick anyone in the world to go on a road trip, who would it be?
I recently saw Todd Sampson give a key-note speech and he was so interesting and inspiring. I'd love to pick his brain and learn more from him.
What is your dream car?
Well as an 18-year-old, getting a new Kia was a dream. I have never really been into anything exotic, but I like sporty and comfortable but also sophisticated.
