Ipswich duo's crucial role in Bandits victory

IPSWICH duo Josh Roberts and Andrew Campbell have inspired the Brisbane Bandits to level the round four Australian Baseball League series with Adelaide Bite.

Brisbane won the opening game 6-2 on Thursday in Adelaide but lost game two 7-6 on Friday.

The second-placed Bandits staged a miraculous recovery to push the game to the final innings, having trailed 7-0 early on against the bottom placed Bite.

However, they fell one run short of forcing it into added innings.

On Saturday afternoon Brisbane lost game three 5-2 before the heroics from Roberts and Campbell got them home 7-3 in game four on Saturday night.

"The team showed that it has an ability to rise to the challenge this weekend," Brisbane's General Manager Paul Gonzalez said.

"To bounce back on the road after two tough losses shows that this team has the make-up to compete for a playoff position this season.

"This team will only continue to get stronger as they continue to play more games throughout the year."

The Bandits return home for a four-game series against the fourth-placed Sydney Blue Sox starting on Friday night

Meanwhile, there was little positive news on the Ipswich Musketeers home front at the weekend.

Ipswich hosted Carina for games on Friday and yesterday, looking to build on their win over Beenleigh the previous weekend, which broke a six-game losing streak.

Third-placed Carina was always likely to be a tougher ask than third from bottom Beenleigh and so it proved.

The Red Sox won 11-0 on Friday night and 22-1 yesterday to leave the Musketeers second from the bottom of the Brisbane Major League ladder.
