Innovation the allen key to mum's own business

WHEN Sunshine Coast mum Kylie Roberts wanted to re-enter the workforce after six years of raising her two kids, she didn't think she'd struggle to find work.

Despite qualifications and 15 years of experience under her belt as a qualified quantity surveyor, Mrs Roberts found that the only positions she'd be considered for were entry level jobs.

So instead, the Currimundi mum decided to take matters and build her own business from the ground up - allen key and all.

"There's no jobs on the Sunshine Coast so I had to create one for myself," she said.

Taking advantage of IKEA's global reputation for rupturing relationships, she has started an online business, 'IKEA Personal Shopper and Delivery Sunshine Coast'.

So instead of being driven slowly insane by the maze-like floor plan of the popular furniture superstore, Mrs Roberts will do the grunt work for you.

"Let me do the hunting and gathering for you," the mum-of-two said.

"People don't want to spend their weekends in IKEA.

"You can spend your whole Saturday in IKEA or I can deliver it to you on a Friday and you can put it together on the weekend."

At the moment she is doing two IKEA runs per week, but hopes for more as the business takes off.

"I'm aiming for one run a week and hopefully I'll get busier - then hopefully I'll be down there every day," she said.

She'll purchase, pick up and deliver IKEA products across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie - all you have to do is build the item.

"One day a week I deliver on the Sunshine Coast: all the way up to Noosa, the hinterland, and Landsborough and another day a week I go to Gympie."

Sunshine Coast residents have taken to social media to praise the new business venture.

"What a great idea," Margaret Halling posted.

"Don't tempt me, I'll buy the whole shop," Sabine Gaensheimer wrote.

"What a great service. Will definitely use you in the future," Karen Wade said.
