INDONESIAN pop musicians have been told to use Korea's music industry as inspiration.

Just weeks after Korean pop powerhouse PSY topped YouTube with his Gangnam Style becoming the most viewed of all time, Indonesian government officials pushed local producers to do more to emulate Korea's success.

The Jakarta Post reported experts from Indonesia's Tourism and Creative Economy Minister made the comments during a seminar on Friday.

"Both countries can also facilitate joint-production and create network among the players in the creative industry," one official said.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said Korean's pop music - or K-Pop - inspired her to create the Indonesian pop genre of I-pop.
