SIX days after Lisa Wilkinson's shock exit from Channel Nine's Today program, she's spoken about her one regret.

"I'm only sorry that I never got the chance to say goodbye to you all ... the incredibly supportive, engaged, opinionated, clever and wonderfully diverse audience of Today," the broadcaster wrote in a massage posted to Instagram, reflecting on "a helluva week".

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the fun years we shared, and for welcoming me into your homes each morning. It has been an absolute privilege."

Wilkinson posted the heartfelt message alongside a photo of herself with former co-host Karl Stefanovic.

"This pic is from Karl's and my very first publicity shoot way back in May 2007. Look at us, we were babies!" she wrote, perhaps as a sign there are no hard feelings between herself and Stefanovic, whose heftier pay packet is reportedly the reason Wilkinson walked.

The post bookends a whirlwind week for the popular host who unexpectedly announced on Twitter Monday evening she was leaving Today. Confirming her final day at the network had already been served that morning, fans of Wilkinson were shocked they would not get to see the personality wrap up her 10 year stint as host with an on-air tribute.

The day following the announcement, Weekend Today host Deborah Knight filled in alongside Stefanovic, who thanked his former co-host for their decade behind the desk together.

"For 10 years, she handled the brutal hours with grace, beauty and intelligence and a wicked sense of humour. For whatever reason she won't be doing that anymore. It is safe to say we are all a little shocked and it will take time to sink in," he said.

Soon after she revealed her exit, Wilkinson shocked again with the announcement she's signed with Channel Ten - in a deal rumoured to be worth $2 million.

The new deal at the rival network is worth much more than what Nine were offering the star to stay on as the breakfast host.

It's understood Wilkinson, reportedly paid $1.1 million at Nine, was asking for a deal worth $2.3 million. Stefanovic, who also does occasional stories for 60 Minutes and fronts a reality show This Time Next Year, is reportedly paid $2 million.
