IBF will strip titles if pro boxers fight at Rio Olympics
BOXING: The International Boxing Federation will take titles off professional fighters if they take part at the Rio Olympics.
It also confirmed that non-title-holders who go to the Games will be taken off the IBF ratings for a year.
The Amateur International Boxing Association approved a rule change in June allowing professionals to compete, but the IBF said there was a safety risk.
“We felt it was important for the IBF to take a stance due to safety concerns, as part of our commitment to this sport is to promote the health and well-being of the boxers,” IBF president Daryl Peoples said.
