Gympie hospital is 'terminally ill' MP says

GYMPIE Hospital is terminally ill, according to MP David Gibson.

Mr Gibson risked the ire of his LNP colleagues yesterday when he said parts of the hospital building were beyond repair, with ailments ranging from overwork and neglect to serious concrete cancer.

He said the vital structure that houses Gympie's most important health services was falling down and beyond repair.

And he said the money allocated by his government - $1.3 million - was nowhere near enough to restore public confidence and even safety.

He admitted that "Labor neglect" had left Queensland in a poor state as far as its hospital system was concerned and conceded these problems existed in many localities.

"I don't doubt that every other area has hospital maintenance issues but I'm not the Member for Every Other Area."
