Hopper endorsed as Katter Party state leader

MEMBER for Condamine, Ray Hopper, has been endorsed as the State Leader of Katter's Australian Party.

Former leader, Rob Katter, made the announcement in Queensland Parliament this morning and welcomed Mr Hopper to the position.

"Ray is a very experienced politician and will be a great leader of Katter's Australian Party," Mr Katter said.

"Ray has shown true courage and determination in the last week and over his time representing his electorate."

Mr Hopper says that he is looking forward to the challenge of providing an alternative voice for Queenslanders.

"I thank my colleagues for their support and am now focused on holding this shambolic government to account," Mr Hopper said.

"Katter's Australian Party has shown that, despite its small representation in parliament, it has risen above petty politics and has a vision for industry, jobs and infrastructure in Queensland."

"This week has also proven that there is a dire need for a strong third voice in Queensland."

"My key focus over the parliamentary break will be to continue building the Katter's Australian Party team right across Queensland."

"I will also be getting out and about across the state to hear from Queenslanders who have been let down by a government that promised so much and delivered so little."

Rob Katter was endorsed as the Parliamentary Secretary and Shane Knuth was appointed Parliamentary Whip.

Katter's Australian Party is now a recognised political party under Queensland legislation and has written to the Premier requesting resources, as per precedents set under previous governments.
