HE'S been called the "King of Joy" and the "best ad for Byron Bay tourism" by the judges of Australia's Got Talent.

Now Byron Bay's dancing man, aka Tommy Franklin, is waiting for the phone call that could change his life.

Tommy appeared on Sunday night's final of Australia's Got Talent with his Salty Rain dance, complete with backing dancers and a backdrop of colourful graphics before a cheering studio audience for the Channel Nine program.

And while the performance, filmed on Friday, was off the charts in typical Tommy exuberance, the dancing man says he's ready to top that if he gets a phone call later this week saying he's made it through to the grand final.

"I've got something up my beard for the next performance," he joked yesterday.

Being told he was loved by judge Dawn French, seeing his parents supporting him in the audience and discovering a Facebook fan page with nearly 27,000 likes are aspects of Tommy's new celebrity he says he has found amazing.

"And what Kyle said about being an ad for Byron - that was so true of the performance. We have people from all walks of life coming to Byron all year around," he said.

"I just didn't expect to hear that from the judges. Their words were very powerful."

As for the future beyond the television talent show, it was overcoming a history of drugs and alcohol that led Tommy to dancing, and he wants to continue to spread the message of healthy living.

Tommy wants to take his unique brand of joyful dancing into schools as well as provide "a little therapy" for corporate boardrooms.
