Boy's heartbreak after pets killed violently by intruder

A NAMBOUR boy struggling with serious health complications is heartbroken after an intruder broke the neck of his beloved pet parrot and then also choked his guinea pig with wire.

Eleven-year-old Bradley Wright had grown close to his parrot Connie ever since his third round of surgery around three years ago to treat hypoplastic left heart syndrome. He also suffers Asperger's syndrome.

"He used to talk to him all the time, get up and feed him, let him crawl over him," Bradley's mother Tania White said through tears.

"It was his best friend.

"He kisses him and says, 'I love you', and it says, 'I love you' back.

"It's the most saddest and sickest thing that anyone could do generally, but especially to a child that is very limited with what he can do."

On top of that overnight on Tuesday, one of Bradley's guinea pigs was found dead in its cage with wire wrapped around its neck and speared through its stomach.

Police have been informed and are investigating.

Bradley has endured three bouts of open heart surgery, and has twice had to be revived after dying on the operating table, so Connie - a sun conures parrot - was bought to help with his recovery.

Connie was selected from a range of others because Bradley could see, in her, similarities to himself.

"It had disabilities itself - its beak was turned to the side and it has pigeon feet - and he picked that one because he felt it was the same as him," Ms White said.

Ms White, a single mum, is hoping someone may be willing to donate a bird to her son to replace Connie.
