A WOMAN stabbed in the chest has been airlifted to hospital with a man, who suffered stab wounds to his chest and body during a "disturbance".

Police believe the man and woman were stabbed during a disturbance at a Kahana Road property near Mossman in north Queensland shortly after 9pm.

Officers found the 25-year-old man with stab wounds to his abdomen and chest and a 39-year-old woman with a stab wound to her chest when they arrived.

Both suffered serious injuries, say police.

Investigations are continuing.
