Have a punt and help a mate

IF you haven't found a way to help people in Grantham rebuild and recover, a day at the races may be just the thing you are looking forward to.

Treasurer of the Lockyer Race Club, Mellissa Meldrum, with the support of her Committee has found a way to help.

“As we all know the recent flood tragedy has brought great heartache to our community and we all want to do something to help our neighbours and friends.”

What better way to support flood victims by having a punt, a cold beer and watching horses race around the track?

The Lockyer Race Club's much anticipated return to racing in 2011 will commence this Saturday when it hosts the Lockyer Valley Flood Appeal Race Day on Saturday, February 19.

The day was initially planned as fund-raiser for Crime Stoppers, will now go towards flood victims in the Lockyer Valley.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council and Lockyer Valley Crime Stoppers are supporting the event.

Tickets are available that will also feature raffles and Fashions on the Field with all proceeds going to the Lockyer Valley Appeal fund.

The five-race card includes the $14,000 QTIS 600 Added Stakes Maiden Plate over 1100 metres.

To make a donation or for more information please call Mellissa on 5462 2850.

Gatton Tyre Service donated a voucher to auction – a set of four Falkin tyres to the value of $1200.

No alcohol is to be brought onto the grounds and people under 18 are to be supervised by an adult at all times.
