‘Guitar god’ Jeff Beck, disco star KC add sunshine to Blues

BLUESFEST artist announcement number five is a smorgasbord of musical talent including disco masters KC and the Sunshine Band, bona fide guitar god Jeff Beck, reggae legends Sly and Robbie, and Australian treasure Kate Miller Heidke.

The 25th Anniversary Bluesfest will be held over the Easter long weekend, April 17-21, at its home, the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, north of Byron Bay.

The announcement follows hot on the heels of the festival-winning gold in the Best Major Festival and Events category at the recent New South Wales Tourism Awards in Sydney.

Bluesfest supremo Peter Noble said this latest group of artists was an early Christmas present for festival-goers who love to shake, shimmy, bop and groove.

"Fun is the word that comes to mind to describe KC and the Sunshine Band," Mr Noble said.

"With more than 100 million records sold they are one of the highest-selling disco bands ever and these guys just want to get down and make you dance.

"They will lift the roof off and you will not be able to stand still or not sing along, no matter what age you are.

"Jeff Beck is seen by many as the guitar player's guitar player, regarded by many as the world's finest guitar player."

Beck emerged on the English music scene in 1966, joining The Yardbirds, and he is returning to Bluesfest after his last appearance in 2010.

Reggae legends Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, drummer and bass player respectively, are widely acknowledged as one of the world's greatest rhythm section.

Dubbed the Riddim Twins, they have been together for over 35 years and have played on or produced over 200,000 recordings, collaborating with everyone from Peter Tosh, Ben Harper, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and Carlos Santana.

"Joining Sly and Robbie and The Taxi Gang is Bitty McLean, who has an astonishing voice and an unnerving ability to pen a great song," said Mr Noble.

Also on the line-up are Gov't Mule, WAR, Chali 2na, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, and Seth Lakeman, with more artists to be announced later in the year.
