Inglis shapes for a shock return

GREG Inglis isn't in Mudgee for the wines.

Nor, it seems, signing sessions.

Sidelined since the 2017 season opener - when he injured his ACL against Wests Tigers - Souths superstar Inglis will this morning try to run himself into a shock Charity Shield appearance against St George Illawarra on Saturday night.

While the 31-year-old hasn't been named in the Rabbitohs' Shield squad, he did slip anonymously into Mudgee Thursday night on the team bus.

Initially, it was suggested Inglis was headed west to help with promotional activities.

Yet rather than attend a 6pm signing session with teammates like Sam Burgess, Cody Walker and John Sutton, the NRL favourite instead stayed at the team hotel, receiving treatment from a club physiotherapist.

And if GI was only here on promotional duties, well, you would expect him to be at said promotional activities, right?

Speaking Thursday night, coach Anthony Seibold was coy when asked to confirm or deny the availability of his Australian Test star, saying only that Inglis would get to push his cause on Friday morning.

Only 10 days ago, it was said Inglis's ongoing knee recovery could keep him out until at least round three.

However, the Bunnies favourite, who will likely switch from fullback to centre this year, insisted at the time he was ready both physically and mentally.

"There are no self-doubts," Inglis said.

"It's all about the confidence ... (and) the confidence is building up again. I have done everything right training wise. I have ticked all the boxes."

Inglis is said to be desperate for some game time before the season opener, even if that only means 20 minutes against the Dragons on Saturday night.
