Great work from green school
ON Tuesday, September 15, Mt Whitestone State School, a one teacher school with an enrolment of 22 students, was awarded the Greenest and Healthiest School in Inner South East Queensland.
The school shared the award with Gatton State School. Inner South East Queensland takes in the Regional Councils of Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset, and the City Council area of Ipswich.
Mt Whitestone State School also took out the awards in the categories of Fit and Active, Partnerships and Environmental Protection.
P and C president, Mark Taylor, also took out the award for an Outstanding Contribution to the Environment by an individual for his tireless work with the Mt Whitestone State School community.
The staff, students and families are very active participants in promoting the health and well being of the entire community, and spend countless volunteer hours preparing, planting and caring for the beautiful environment at the school.
The students have just completed a walkathon to raise funds for the RSPCA and the Flying Doctors.
They also have invited past students back to the school to share stories with them.
These stories will be published in a book “Memories of Mt Whitestone” to coincide with the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the school in March, 2011.
