Great Australia Day planned
AN amazing line-up of activities are again planned for Australia Day celebrations in the Somerset region on January 25 and 26.
Kilcoy will be staging the Yowie Festival, incorporating the third KPC Kilcoy Gift on Monday January 25, starting at 5pm. Activities include the Kilcoy Gift, the Yowie Team Challenge and the 800m steeplechase.
On Australia Day, January 26, the regional Australia Day festival will be held in Esk. Events kick off with Esk’s first ever skateboard competition from 10.30am.
The regional Australia Day Awards ceremony will be held at the Lyceum Hall, Highland Street Esk starting at 2pm. The ceremony will include the naming of Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Sports and Cultural Awards.
All previous winners of Esk, Kilcoy and Somerset Australia Day Awards are invited to attend the ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by an afternoon tea.
From 3pm the Somerset Regional Council has then asked the community to join the celebrations at the Esk Railway Reserve with live entertainment, amusement rides and community stalls. The afternoon will include children’s Australian story-telling and novelty games.
The festival concludes with the Ipswich Hospital Foundation’s Fit Flick outdoor movie, screening Night in the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian from 7pm.
