Google Pixel 2 'takes better pictures than iPhone'

GOOGLE this morning unveiled new phones, smart speakers and other devices infused with artificial intelligence in its bid to claim the high ground against rivals Amazon and Apple.

The second generation of Google's Pixel phones feature larger, brighter screens that take up more of the phone's front.

Both the 6-inch Pixel 2 XL and the 5-inch Pixel 2 will also do away with the headphone jack, something Apple did with the iPhone 7 last year.

Google also improved the already highly rated camera on the Pixel, boasting that it will take even better photos than the iPhone.

The smaller Pixel 2 will sell for $A1079 and the Pixel 2 XL costs $A1549.

The company also announced wireless headphones called Pixel Buds.

In addition to relaying audio from the phone, the headphones can also translate spoken language in real time using translation software built into the new Pixels.

Google also presented a hands-free camera called Google Clips that will automatically take photos and video for people looking to catch candid moments.

The small, square device can be attached to something stationary so it can capture images of everything within its range of view.

It will rely on artificially intelligence to know the best times to snap a photo or record video.
