Gongs for orange angels
SES Week was launched in style with an awards ceremony for the south-western region in Gatton at the weekend.
To mark the launch of SES Week the public have been invited to wear orange today to support the work of the volunteer group.
The south-west region SES volunteers were honoured in three different categories and service medals were presented by Member for Ipswich West Wayne Wendt on behalf of the Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Emergency Services Neil Roberts.
In presenting the awards Mr Wendt spoke of the work of the SES which came to the fore during the summer of disasters and said everyone should now be familiar with the work of the "orange angels" in difficult times.
The winners of the Regional Unit of the Year went to the Warwick group, the Regional Operational Response of the Year award went to the Maranoa regional SES unit (Roma) for their tireless work from December through to April 2011 and the regional member of the year was presented to James Ross from the Cecil Plains group.
The winners of the regional awards now go onto the finals of the state-wide awards held later in the year.
