Glory victory puts some gloss on bad week

PLAYING for pride after being thrown out of the A-League finals for salary cap breaches and seeing the club chief executive fall on his sword, Perth Glory showed plenty of spirit in a 3-1 win over Melbourne City at nib Stadium.

Jamie McLaren was the hero for the home side with a hat-trick as the Glory put a wretched week behind it to earn a much-needed victory.

The points will count for nothing, with the club moving down to seventh when the home and away season is finished next week but coach Kenny Lowe would have been proud of his team's performance in trying circumstances.

City coach John van't Schip would have wanted to carry on a good run of form ahead of the playoffs but apart from Aaron Mooy's wonder free-kick, the visitors did not offer much.
