'Girl bound in sex attack'

A BOONAH man is in custody after allegedly restraining a teenage girl and demanding she perform sexual acts.

Police will allege the girl was able to free herself and run to a neighbour's house before her attacker was able to sexually assault her.

The incident occurred at a Boonah residence on Monday.

Amazingly, the girl escaped the ordeal with only minor physical injuries.

Police said that the man accused of restraining and assaulting the girl then attempted to self-harm by taking an overdose of drugs.

He was treated at Ipswich Hospital.

Police later charged him with deprivation of liberty and assault with intent to commit rape.

The 34-year-old man was known to the teenage girl, whose exact age was not disclosed yesterday.

The man, who cannot be named as it would identify his alleged victim, was to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday, however the matter had to be adjourned to yesterday as he was unfit to appear in court.

No application was made for bail yesterday.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court again on September 28.
