Geordie sure needs a win for the Hawks

BASKETBALL: Five rounds into the NBL season and coach Geordie McLeod is fighting to keep Wollongong's season from being the worst in the club's history.

Already 1-8, it won't get any easier against a resurgent New Zealand Breakers outfit in Auckland tonight. The key for the Hawks is whether misfiring imports Gary Ervin (pictured) and Jahii Carson, who have connected with just four of 23 three-point attempts, can find their range.

Also tonight, Townsville comes up against its old coach Trevor Gleeson and the Wildcats in Perth. The Crocs have not won in the west in the past six years.

Melbourne United will be looking to make it a round-six double against Adelaide 36ers tomorrow night after blowing top-of-the-table Cairns off Margaret Court Arena 91-76 on Wednesday night.

The final game of the round on Sunday will see the Wildcats back up from the Crocs match to take on the Kings in Sydney.
