THERE'LL be loads of horsing around when Neil Hall and his precious gem Opal step into the Ekka show ring on Sunday.

The Toowoomba clydesdale breeder hopes his enormous five-year-old mare wins a blue ribbon at the Royal Queensland Show's mane event.

Opal is starring in the Horse Breeds Expo throughout the 10-day event and she, along with another Carseldine Clydesdales horse, will step into the show ring on Sunday.

Mr Hall said he hoped to score at least second in the competition.

"She's got good breeding,” he said of the mare.

"Opal is broken to saddle and she is also broken to pulling - eventually she will be in log-snigging and other competitions.”

Mr Hall's father worked with clydies when he was young and that's what inspired the Toowoomba horse lover to breed the gentle giants.

"They're big and they're majestic,” Mr Hall said.

"They're just beautiful.”

"I fell in love with them and I just got to a place where I could afford a block of land to have them.”
