Geitz and McMeniman to fight the Magic for finals appearance

LAURA Geitz and Clare McMeniman are eyeing off another finals appearance in the ANZ Championship.

The defensive pair who started their schooling on the Southern Downs will played for the Mission Queensland Firebirds team which is poised to finish second on the ANZ Championship ladder if they can secure a win over The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic tonight at Claudelands Arena, Hamilton.

A weekend of upsets over the weekend has given the Firebirds a chance to aim for second.

The Melbourne Vixens and NSW Swifts, both higher ranked than the Firebirds going into the final round, lost in away matches to New Zealand team.

The Firebirds have been on a second half season roll, not dropping a match in their last five outings; another win tonight will also see the Queensland team grab two chances of reaching the Grand Final.

The Firebirds play Magic at 5.40pm tonight local time.

Semi finals are on June 8-9, the preliminary final on June 15-16 and the grand final on June 22-23. Final dates will be determined by the hosting venues.
