Gatton football rundown

HERE are the Gatton football notes from the past week.

Premiers: the Redbacks fought out a gutsy 1-0 win over USQ at Tora Park in Toowoomba on Sunday. Desperate for a win, the boys started well and controlled most of the first half. In the second half a tireless Justin Newby swooped on a USQ mistake and with a well-placed strike put the Redbacks one goal in front. The boys held on for a well-deserved win with Justin also earning himself players' player.

The Redbacks can put the win down to the efforts of Dom Rosier, Curtis Bell and Kerriad Sippel.

Reserve Women: played Rockville, who are second on the ladder at the moment. Willowburn was the venue and the first half saw Gatton play extremely well, keeping Rockville to nil-all. Player of the match was Emily Burrows, the youngest member of the team. Her confidence is growing with each game.

The game took on a new aspect with Janita Taylor playing her first game in goal. The final score was 0-0, but the Gatton girls are still unsure whether they can make the top four for the semi-finals in a few weeks time.

This season has seen a very close competition with the top four changing often.

U7: defeated St Albans Seagulls in a great match on Saturday. Gatton only had three players but Angus from St Albans played for Gatton and managed to score us a goal.

Lachlan and Josh both scored goals and Jacob was a consistent team player.

U10: Red defeated West Wanderers Waves 4-1. Goals were scored by Tom, Ben, Kendyl and Brady.

The win this week gave the team confidence in their abilities and reminded them of what can be achieved when they play as a team and don't give up when the going gets tough.

U11A: Gatton Redbacks had a rain soaked win 6-1 against Rockville after 10 minutes into the game the rain started and never eased off until full-time.

With Noah providing some great cross balls and Brock finishing off they jumped to a 2-nil lead after four minutes and finished the second half with four superb goals.

Goal scores were Ben P, Ben B, Noah and Brock.

The Redbacks recently attended the Rockville soccer carnival in Toowoomba and came home victorious in the Grand Final.

Without having a goal scored against them in the preliminary rounds they had to survive extra time and a penalty shoot-out in the major semi to progress through to the Grand Final, winning 2-1.

U11B: Gatton Redbacks won 3-0 against Rockville.

The whole team worked well to produce an exciting game.

Cameron just seemed to always be in the right place to score all three goals.

Lena playing her best as goal keeper with great plays in forwards and mids from Hans, Frank, Tim, Blake and Harrison.

The back line consisting of Brody, Harry, Lachlan and Jeremy worked hard at keeping the ball away from the opposition's goal.

U13B: the first half saw some great pressure and team effort from the Redbacks, with Rudi scoring the first goal of the game off a great pass by Brady.

Although Angus put in a great runaway goal in the second half and despite some fantastic goal-keeping from Tyson, the Hawks fought back to win the game 5-2.

U15B: Gatton won 4-1 after being 1-1 at half-time.

Goal scorers were Julian Lunnon, Nicholas Pinnell, Jack Ashburner Gorse and Dylan Bloomfield after his attempt hit the woodwork.

Man of the match was Matthew Sudhaus with notable contributions from Lee Rosier, Dylan Bloomfield and Lochlan Sullivan.

U16G: the Redback girls, again unable to field a full team, lost 3-0 to Laidley at Laidley.

The Gatton girls put their best foot forward, and fingers crossed for more bodies on the field in future.
