Future stars exhibit skill

THE Downs Youth and Amateur Show (YouAm10) was held at the Laidley showgrounds.

The classes were judged by interstate Judges Kate and Doyle Dertell from Victoria.

Judges took to the microphone at the conclusion of each class with encouragement and comments on each horse and handler/riders performance which was an invaluable learning tool.

Professional handlers and trainers from South-East Qld volunteered their time to act as stewards, announcers, marshalling and helping out in all areas of the show.

The Under 9 division was an absolute crowd favourite with the youngsters being encouraged and helped by mums and dads, to the cheers of spectators and proud grandparents.

Another highlight was the novelty events, enjoyed by youth and adults alike.

Two local riders competing at their first ever Arabian show took out a high point division (Caitlin Emmerson – Under 9) and won a novelty event (Alisha Nees – 10-13 years).

Riders came from as far north as Gympie and south from New South Wales to compete.

During the show crowds were entertained by the incomparable Kym (Buchanan) Dyball and the ever witty Andrew Falconer who did a fantastic job announcing.

The Downs Arabian Club would like to thank all the volunteers, competitors, sponsors and spectators for making the day such an astounding success.

The YouAm11 is set to be bigger and better so mark your calendar for next year.
