Frasier star dead at 77
JOHN Mahoney, the actor best known for his role as Kelsey Grammer's dad on Frasier, died on the weekend in Chicago, aged 77.
Mahoney starred as Martin Crane on the hit sitcom for more than 10 years. He reportedly passed away in hospice care, according to his publicist and TMZ.
Born in Blackpool, England in June 1940, Mahoney most recently appeared in an episode of British television drama Foyle's War in 2015, and joined the cast of Hot In Cleveland from 2011 until 2014.
His acting career spanned more than 30 years and included roles on television and film, with movies including Barton Fink, The American President and Flipped.

He moved to the US after World War II and once told the Chicago Tribune, "It was so bleak and dark in England" and "so sunny" in America.
He served in the US army for three years before becoming a citizen and receiving a bachelor's degree from Quincy College in Illinois.
Reps for Mahoney did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.
