TREASURER Andrew Fraser, 35, will be Queensland's new deputy premier after he is officially sworn-in soon at Government House.
Labor's caucus met this morning and as expected, endorsed Mr Fraser's promotion to the deputy leadership. He was elected unopposed and unanimously.
He will replace Paul Lucas who announced yesterday that he would step down as deputy premier and quit politics at the next state election.
Mr Fraser described his predecessor as a "lionhearted servant'' of Queensland.
''I look forward to serving the premier diligently and loyally as we put forward our plans for the future of Queensland,'' Mr Fraser said.
''Whatever the travails of recent years I've always been confident about where the state is headed, where it can go and the task that we have before us as a government as, with unity and purpose, we forge out a future for the state.'
