FRASER COAST: What we got out of the 2016 State Budget

FRASER Coast roads and tourism scored well in this year's State Budget.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt on Tuesday set aside  $639.4m for infrastructure projects across the Wide Bay.

The Wide Bay region covers Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Gympie and the Burnett areas.

The $5.1m Dog Hole Creek Bruce Highway widening project was a key roads announcement as was the works to improve the Torbanlea Bruce Highway exit overtaking  lanes.

This received $3.8 million.

The Woolooga Road to Chapmans Road widening project, between Gympie and Maryborough, received $2.1m.

The World Heritage extension to  Fraser Island management team has $209,000  to put towards the Great  Sandy World Heritage nomination.

 

This process involved consultation with traditional owners, the public and the Australian  Government and should be done by the start of 2018.

The Fraser Island Ocean Lake management has $164,000 to replace the toilets with a more efficient and less labour-intensive  sewage treatment system.

Childers Auxiliary Fire and  Rescue Station has $400,000 for its ongoing $2m  upgrade  and $5m will continue the Howard Police and Fire Station facility.

About $600,000 has been set aside for the Queensland Regional Natural  Resource Management Investment Program to target feral pigs, foxes and weeds, improve water quality entering the Great Barrier Reef and enhance responsible agricultural  productivity in the region.
