Ex-cop punished son with sex acts

A FORMER Central Queensland police officer, who made his son perform sexual acts as a form of punishment, has been jailed for three years.

The 47-year-old man, who a jury in March found guilty of indecently dealing with a child on five occasions between 1996 and 2002, was sentenced in the Rockhampton District Court last week.

All the offences occurred when the boy was aged under 16.

The court heard the father made his son perform oral sex and masturbation on him as punishment for bad behaviour.

Judge Grant Britton said the crime was made worse as the man was a “person trained to uphold the law”.

“It was a gross breach of trust by you – as his father,” Judge Britton told the man.

The man’s lawyer, Ross Lo Monaco, said he had no contact with his children for years.

Mr Lo Monaco said his client was suffering from depression related to his time in the police service and now had a heart condition.

Judge Britton sentenced the man to three years jail, which includes 89 days already spent in custody.
