Cousins allegedly found asleep with meth

Former AFL star Ben Cousins has found himself in trouble with the law after he was reportedly arrested in Victoria Park yesterday.

Cousins has a long and storied past with drug issues and only last month the former West Coast and Richmond star appeared in a tell-all interview where he talked about his problems and wanting to make a better life for himself after a stint behind bars.

The former Brownlow Medalist however found himself back where he hoped not to be, with Nine News Perth reporting Cousins had been taken to a holding cell after allegedly being found with 2.5 grams of methamphetamine.

"Ben Cousins is right now in a holding cell here at the Perth watch house," Nine reporter Jerrie Demasi said.

"He was arrested, found sleeping, next to his car after reports of erratic driving.

"Police tell me a body search found 2.5 grams of methamphetamine."

Cousins' interview with the Seven network was widely slammed by fans for failing to unearth any new information with fans also unhappy the network had taken advantage of the former star.

Athletes and sports journalists were quick to voice their concern, including former Wallaby Matt Giteau.

"Channel 7 couldn't care less about Ben Cousins in my opinion," Giteau tweeted. "Just wanted the story. I felt he was taken advantage of badly and the whole thing was just sad. Say what you want of him but I really hope he gets the help he desperately needs."

"Horrible seeing Ben Cousins like this," added Daniel Garb. "Tragically it doesn't seem like he believes he can conquer it."

"It was over-hyped, but I thought Basil Zempilas did a very solid job on the doco," tweeted the Herald Sun's Mark Robinson. "Ben Cousins is a difficult subject matter. He avoids questions. And just when you think he will open up, he doesn't, and talks generally. That all said, I hope he gets what he wants out of life."
