Three arrested in India over killing of Toni Anne Ludgate

THREE men have been arrested over the killing of Sydney grandmother Toni Anne Ludgate in India.

Indian police said a large amount of cash and jewels were behind the murder of the 75-year-old in Andhra Pradesh.

Ms Ludgate was doing charity work in the country's south when she went missing in August.

Police found her body on Saturday.

Inspector B Venugopal said three men had been arrested.

He said one of the men was a guard at the building in which Ms Ludgate lived.

He said a fight over money led to the killing.

"They went 16 kilometres into the fields and they buried her," he told the ABC.

Ms Ludgate's daughter, Traci Harding, said her mother was a joy to be around.

"She was that kind of a person, everybody's mum, everyone was always at our place. If someone was having problems they would end up at ours," she told the Daily Telegraph.

"We're just happy to have found her so that we can put her to rest."
