A CYCLIST is in a serious condition and four others have suffered significant injuries after being hit by a car in Brisbane this morning.

One is being treated for critical head injuries, reports ABC News.

Police are now on the scene of the incident trying to ascertain what has happened.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said one person had been taken in a serious condition to the Princess Alexandra hospital.

Four others have suffered significant injuries and have been taken to the Princess Alexandra hospital or the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

The incident happened at 6.20am on Dornoch Terrace in West End.

The road is closed between Doris St and Daventry St.
