TONIGHT'S pressure test was no piece of cake for Nick Doyle.

The 22-year-old law student was eliminated from MasterChef after being pushed to boiling point in one of the reality cooking show's most difficult pressure tests to date.

Doyle, Sean Baxter and Sarah Todd were given two hours to recreate chef Alla Wolf-Tasker's intricate "Rivers and Lakes" seafood dish.

The dish featured carpaccio of smoked eel, cured trout and cured Murray cod, smoked fish consommé jelly, fresh yabbies and fish crackling with watercress puree and wild fennel.

Judge George Calombaris called the dish one of the "toughest" in the show's history.

Doyle, who specialises in desserts and had never filleted a fish before, quickly found himself on the back foot.

"As soon as I saw the dish - Sean and Sarah are strong savory cooks - I had a feeling I was probably going to go home," he told APN.

"But I still knew I had to try to do the dish.

"Even just starting and reading the recipe, we had to fillet and pin bone two pieces of fish and use six different types of equipment."

While he was disappointed to exit the show so early, as the fourth home cook eliminated from the Top 24, Doyle was lucky enough to meet Maggie Beer.

"She's one of my food heroes," he said.

"They didn't show it on TV but I gave her a big hug. I've watched her on the food channel since I was a teenager."          

Since leaving the show Doyle has put his law degree on hold to pursue writing and his own catering business.

"I've started a catering business with two of my friends," he said.

"It's called The Green Room in Newcastle. We hope it will eventuate into a market stall and a store front."

Doyle also hopes to put his writing major to good use in the near future by started up his own food blog.

Tomorrow night, contestants Amy Shields, Laura Cassai and Tracy Collins will compete for immunity against chefs Ollie Gould and Kylie Kwong.

MasterChef Australia airs Sundays through Thursdays at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
