Firies host special open day

THE Gatton Springdale Rural Fire Station held an open day last weekend where a number of displays and information was available for local residents.

The open day featured a display of the vehicles used in the area including two rural units from the Springdale station, an urban unit from Gatton as well as a command van from Laidley.

A range of information on how to prepare the home in case of bush fires was also available along with demonstrations as to how a bush fire can react in different situations.

Secretary of the Gatton Springdale Rural Fire Brigade, Pauline Prince, said the open day was a huge success with about 40 locals attending.

“It was a successful day for us because we enlisted a couple of new members,” she said.

Ms Prince said an evacuation plan was one of the most important ways to prepare for the bush fire season.

“Make sure you have an evacuation plan because you need to know in advance whether to save your house or if won't be able to, you've got to get out.”
