FIRES BEGIN: Total fire bans for much of NSW

A TOTAL fire ban has been declared for the Greater Hunter, Southern Ranges, Central Ranges, and North Western regions as the state prepares for another week of scorching temperatures.

The ban comes as firefighters continue to battle a bushfire that is still raging through the Royal National Park along Sir Bertram Stevens Drive between Garie Beach and Wattamolla Beach.

The fire is being treated as suspicious with an investigation underway, a NSW Police spokeswoman told AAP.

The fire ban was declared yesterday and will continue through to today for much of NSW.
