Firefighter named in honours list

72-YEAR-OLD Lockyer Valley firefighter, Colin Harch has been recognised in the Queen's Birthday 2010 honours list.

A very humble and shocked Colin Harch was awarded with the Australian Fire Service Medal over the weekend for more than 50 years of service as a volunteer firefighter.

The Summerholm farmer is currently the oldest member of the Hatton Vale Summerholm Rural Fire Service and was commended for his efforts with the local brigade.

Mr Harch was overwhelmed at receiving such an honour.

“We are all in the Brigade for the same reason, to serve the community and to save the property of the residents in our community from fires.”

“I simply enjoy helping the community and I'm stunned to have been chosen for this award.”

Mr Harch will receive his medal during a formal ceremony later this year.
