Fire crews contain large bushfire on Stradbroke Island
RESIDENTS in a quaint North Stradbroke Island village were told to get ready to leave their homes on Tuesday due to a large bushfire.
The Department of Community Safety issued a watch and act warning at midday as a large fire burning in bushland came within two kilometres from the Amity township.
But the warning was cancelled in the afternoon as 15 fire crews managed keep the fire behind containment lines.
The fire has been burning since Sunday and four structures have been destroyed.
