Family says goodbye to Antony

ANTONY Paul Way, one of the victims of last week's triple murder-suicide in Robina and Casino, was laid to rest during a private Nerang funeral service yesterday.

The media was asked not to attend the funeral, which a Somerville Funerals spokeswoman described as a “lovely service”.

Gold Coast police said Mr Way's family requested privacy while saying their goodbyes “so that they may focus their energies on dealing with the immediate issues relating to this traumatic incident”.

The family of Tania Simpson, who was murdered alongside Mr Way by Ms Simpson's former partner Paul Anthony Rogers, also asked via a statement their privacy be respected.

Rogers later killed his and Ms Simpson's five-year-old daughter, Kyla, near Casino before taking his own life.

“We have a long and difficult road ahead of us and we need the time to try and come to grips with the enormity of what has happened, and to grieve the loss of a loving daughter and sister, and a beautiful grand-daughter,” it read.

“We have been overwhelmed by the expressions of sorrow from friends and strangers alike who, like us, cannot comprehend the tragic and senseless events which took Tania and little Kyla from us. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers at this time, and assure them that they all help. Both parents had access to the children and there was no custody battle. In the seven months since the separation Tania and the children had been living with the family until moving into her new business on May 3.”

Ms Simpson's and Kyla's funeral will be held at Gold Coast Christian Church, Mudgeeraba, on Thursday.
