IT seems we have become all too reliant on Facebook and the immediate gratification it provides us.
So when the website experienced a short blackout it was all too much for some.
During the 15-minute blackout, the website prevented users from logging in on Thursday and some were still reporting they were receiving error messages yesterday.
People took to Twitter using the hash tag #facebookdown to make light of the situation.
Creative marketing company Red Hot Blue owner-manager Jody Euler said the reaction to the short blackout shows how much people value social media like Facebook.
"Fifteen minutes is not that drastic in the scheme of things," she said.
"It depends which way you're looking at it.
"Businesses rely on social media for promoting and marketing.
"The blackout is a good example why all your eggs shouldn't be in one basket.
"From a social point of view, it rings true how much society has become so reliant on it."
She said Facebook generates so much popularity due to its immediacy.
"Facebook is real time," Ms Euler said.
"It's immediate gratification for what they are saying and posting. They can have that response from their friends, families and customers."
Could you survive without social media?
