Ensure your vehicle is beach-ready before hitting the sand

HOLIDAY-makers need to ensure their vehicles are beach ready before hitting the islands this Christmas, the National Parks Minister has warned.

Drivers should ensure to check tyre pressure before driving on and off the sand and not to pack to much weight on roof racks.

"If the vehicle is top-heavy it can become unstable and there's a real danger of crashing or rolling over," National Parks, Racing, Sports and Recreation Minister Steve Dickson said.

"Driving on beaches is not like driving on a highway and conditions can change rapidly."

Tourism Queensland recommends lowering tyre pressure to between 25 and 15psi when driving on Fraser Island.
