Emirates adopts Russian theme for Cup

TO coincide with the launch of daily flights from Dubai to St Petersburg on November 1, 2011, Emirates' will present a Russian city themed marquee at this year's Emirates Melbourne Cup Carnival.  

As the principal partner of the Melbourne Cup Carnival and title sponsor of the Emirates Melbourne Cup, the airline has drawn inspiration from St Petersburg landmark, the majestic Catherine Palace for it's marquee, which will too be famed for its lavish and decorated design.  

Featuring a new layout with a regal feel and grand suite of formal rooms including the Tsar Bar, a separate lounge and restaurant serving the finest caviar and the Grand Cascade Terrace offering premium trackside views.  

Emirates vice president of Australiasia, Barry Brown said St Petersburg is an epicentre for art and culture in Europe.  

"We are proud to share some of the highlights this destination has to offer with our guests at the Melbourne Cup Carnival. What a perfect way to celebrate the launch of our newest destination, St Petersburg than with a grand celebration of our own on the very same day."   

The Emirates marquee features:

  • An oversized custom made Fabergé egg - a symbol of luxury throughout Russia will take pride of place in the Emirates Marquee. Weighing 50kg and encrusted with over 300 polished resin cut diamonds it pays tribute to the masterpieces created by the renowned St Petersburg jewellery house.
  • Traditional Cossack dancers will perform each day throughout the carnival entertaining guests with their traditional knee-bending moves.
  • Emirates lives up to its airside reputation on course with VIP guests treated to the full first class service including the Emirates salon where guest will receive hair and make-up touch-ups courtesy of Conrad Mace and Napoleon Perdis.
  • Fully plumbed bathrooms and an on-site tote ensures guests never have to leave the marquee.
  • Head Chef, Tony Cimmino, will showcase an exquisite Russian inspired menu that showcases some of the culinary delights this spectacular destination has to offer.
  • Ketel One Brand Ambassador and Emirates Mixologist Sean Baxter will be serving Russian inspired cocktails from the Tsar Bar.
  • A Jo Malone stylist will be on hand in the powder room to educate guests on how to accessorise with scent with over 22 fragrances available.
