Snr Const Reid said the girl appeared to have run out onto the street from the cover of another car parked on the side of the road.

She then ran into the path of a man driving a black Jeep in a southerly direction on Platz St.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services acting station officer Peter Robinson said the people first on the scene had given great first aid to the girl.

"There were other children in the area at the time as it is school time so we are not sure how many would have witnessed it," he said.

"It's a small community in this area, a lot of people know each other and it's very close to the school.

He said the driver was shaken. A second child was treated for shock at the scene.
