Emergency response ruled out

EMERGENCY workers in some areas can no longer respond to call for help as Cyclone Yasi sweeps towards the coast.

Premier Anna Bligh announced that high winds and dangerous conditions meant it was no longer safe for rescuers to respond.

She said this would lead to further distress for people calling emergency numbers but it was unavoidable.
