Emergency crews rush to fire at Coast council building

UPDATE 5PM: The Sunshine Coast Council's customer service centre in Caloundra will be closed for the rest of the week after a fire gutted an office in the building. 

Fire crews rushed to beat back the flames last night after the witnesses reported the fire just before 11.30pm on Monday night.

A customer service desk has been set up at the Caloundra Library while the damage is repaired. 

The council has advised all transactions at this temporary desk must be completed by EFTPOS. 
 

UPDATE 8AM: SUNSHINE Coast Council's customer service centre in Caloundra will be closed closed today after a fire that broke out in one of the administration offices overnight.

Council have advised that customers can still attend service counters in Maroochydore and Nambour.

EARLIER 7.09AM: FIRE crews rushed to a Sunshine Coast Council building overnight amid reports that an office had gone up in flames.

Smoke was seen issuing from the Caloundra administration building when fire crews arrived on the scene shortly after 11.30pm.

Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered an empty office on the bottom level of the Omrah Avenue building alight.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 12.17am. The fire was contained to the office, located at the back of the building.

Crews believe that they may have found the cause of the fire, but are yet to confirm after further investigation this morning.

Sunshine Coast Council have been approached for comment.
