Dog attack victim was trying to save chicken

UPDATE 2PM: AN elderly woman was trying to pull a chicken from the mouth of a dog that attacked her this morning.

Somerset Regional Council has seized a Staffordshire bull terrier from a private residence in Prospect St, Lowood, following the incident about 8.20am.

The Queensland Times understands the dog escaped into a neighbour's property before attacking a chicken.

A woman aged in her 70s was trying to take the chicken out of the dog's mouth when she was bitten several times.

She was later taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment of a deep laceration to her elbow.

Somerset Regional Council will keep the dog while an investigation into the incident is carried out.

The victim received bites to her elbow, hip and knee in the incident and had sustained a significant cut and bruising around her elbow.

She has been taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition.

Police were also called to the incident and said it appeared as thought the woman was confronted by two stray dogs - only one of which attacked her.
