POLICE are searching for a 30 year-old man they claim evaded them for more than 290km, ditching and stealing multiple and beating the PolAir Chopper and road spikes in the process.
Just before midday yesterday a car which police say had been stolen from an address in New South Wales allegedly drove off from a petrol station in Wallangara without paying.
Police were conducting patrols in the Glen Aplin area when they say they saw the same car travelling north on the New England Hwy - they tried intercept it but the driver didn't stop.
The stolen vehicle was later sighted near Dalveen on the New England Highway - again it failed to stop when police attempted to intercept it.
Road spikes were then deployed on the Cunningham Hwy, but, it was unsuccessful and the car continued north.
The car was later involved in a traffic crash with a vehicle travelling south of Fassifern.
The two occupants of the other car weren't injured.
Police say the man then abandoned the car a short distance away and ran.
An extensive search of the area involving PolAir Chopper and the dog squad failed to locate him.
Police then received information that a grey Santa Fe, had been stolen from a location about a kilometre away at Muller Rd.
he vehicle was later located abandoned on Broadwater Rd at Mansfield.
About 2.45pm the man allegedly confronted another man outside a Lorinya St home in Mansfield and police say he demanded keys to a car and threatened to assault the victim.
The man then allegedly stolen a blue Hyundai Getz bearing Queensland registration 667KGO, which is yet to be located.
Investigations into the incidents are continuing.
"We do consider him dangerous," Superintendent Jim Keogh said.
"This is three hours of anarchy, endangering members of the community on the road, when he steals the cars and certainly a wilful attitude to damaging property.
"And you look at what could have happened when he was driving on the Ipswich Hwy erratically and causing a lot of near misses."
Detectives believe 30-year-old Wade Lawrence Jackson (pictured) can assist them with their investigation and are urging anyone who sees him, not to approach him but to contact Triple Zero.
He is described as being Aboriginal, about 180cm tall, bald, with a muscular build.
