Don't split hairs! Pimped pooch is a good boy
HE might look like a beautiful bitch but rest assured Conrad the standard poodle is actually a very good boy.
The Toowoomba pooch is among more than 2000 canines vying for the coveted champion of show title in the Ekka's Canine Competition.
It took Conrad's owner Virginia Young two days to prepare the almost three-year-old dog for his spin around the showring this week.
"We've had to shave him, bathe and blow dry him," Ms Young, a dog groomer by trade, said.
"We had to scissor his coat twice.
"We've put hairspray in his coat, it's similar to doing a woman's hair. A poodle's fur is as close to human hair as you can get."
While thousands of beautiful dogs from across Australia will take to the showring over the coming week, Ms Young was confident her boy would take away the top title.
"I think he's a winner, but I'm biased because he's mine," Ms Young said.
"He can really move and I'm hoping the judges will think his movement is good enough to get him over the line."
The Ekka's Canine Competition has attracted about 2400 entries across 217 breeds of pooch this year.
Judges have travelled from Slovenia, Japan, Ireland and Serbia to assess the competition.
The champion of show title will be awarded, along with the best puppy crown, on August 19.
The Ekka is also hosting a working dog show on August 18 and Dances with Dogs on August 20.
