New Gatton pool opens tomorrow

THE Lockyer Valley Sport and Aquatic Centre will be opened this weekend.

Construction began on the pool in August last year and Saturday will mark the official opening.

The pool is a state of the art, 50m, 10 lane Olympic size pool which also includes a learn-to-swim pool.

It will be open with free entry from 10am-2pm and everyone who comes along to celebrate can meet Australian Olympic swimming gold medalist Cate Campbell and Australia's 15 time undefeated strongman and former Gladiator Derek Boyer.

Cate will be swimming a lap against a member of the public with Derek conducting weight lifting demonstrations.

The official ceremony with Mayor Steve Jones, Cate Campbell and Derek Boyer speaking will be held at midday.

Gatton's existing pool in East St will be decommissioned once the new pool is open and fully operational.
