Dedicated teacher receives medal

The dedication and hard work within the education sector from Ropeley music teacher Christina Martin did not go unrecognised last week as she received a 20-year badge.

Mrs Martin said she was not expecting to receive the award and was not used to the attention.

"I've never really tallied up how many years I've been teaching," she said.

"I've done so many different things and been employed by many education departments."

Mrs Martin's teaching experience covers numerous schools across Queensland having also taught overseas in London and Venice.

Mrs Martin said music was an important part of every child's education and helped with self esteem, confidence and stimulating the brain which in turn helped learning.

Currently Mrs Martin is helping Ropeley students prepare for their annual end of year Christmas concert which is to have a theme surrounding the music artist Pink.

The concert will be held on Thursday, November 24 from 5.30pm.
